We Belong - Chapter 1

“And that's it folks! USC have won the 2016 College Cup! With a stunning brace from sophomore midfielder Alix Ackerman, this was her last game for USC. After this, she is on her way to London to play for Arsenal Women, having made the announcement a week ago with the club and her university. She says she will continue her degree, but play professionally as well."

My teammates rush to my side after the final whistle. We did it. We won the NCAA tournament, giving USC its second ever title. I hear both Ally Prisock and Leah Pruitt storm over to me, yelling, and I catch Ally when she jumps on me.

"Holy shit! We just did that," she yells in delight as I put her down. "Wow Alix, what a sendoff! Can't wait to see what you do with Arsenal this season" Leah says mid-hug.

I hear someone calling my name, and find myself ushered to the media area by the side of the pitch. I'm handed a headset and a microphone, and I prepare myself for yet another interview.

"How have the past couple of weeks been for you Alix?" the presenter, who works for the Pac-12 network, asks. "They've been quite hectic to be honest," I reply with a chuckle, before continuing with "there's been a lot going on, especially with tournament training and Skype meetings."

The presenter nods before asking his next question. "How do you feel now? You just won the College Cup and you're leaving for London in a few days." I smile and reply with "It feels good to end the tournament with a win. I wanted to leave on good standings, and to get the win for this team makes me feel a lot better than I did going into this."

After I finished up my interviews, coach called for me. As I approached him, I noticed the entire team except for the seniors and me were standing at the center circle. Coach directed us towards the group, and as we got closer they started singing the Trojan rally chant. It was the best way to possibly end the season. An NCAA title and my best friends and teammates singing our rally song.

Was out on a cold night watching my team Crystal Palace WFC get humiliated 5 nil at home by London City Lionesses 😢 Silver lining is they could have scored a lot more than 5 😁 2nd silver lining was I ate a lot of chips!
